Mars is the fourth planet in the Sol system and is home to one of the Terran Federations oldest planetary colonies.

Early Exploration[]

Viking 1 was the first probe on Mars, landing in 1976 and was one of many unmanned missions to Mars in the late 20th and early 21st century. The first manned mission to Mars took place in 2032 with the Ares IV shuttle, captained by Jared Oris of NASA.

During the 2040's several military and science bases were established on Mars. The first civilian outpost was known as Mars Dome One, which by 2069 had a population of 18,000 people. Tragedy struck when the Order of Terra bombed Mars Dome One in protest of galactic expansion. Its first capital city, Viking City, was built near the Viking landing sight in 2103, which was preserved as a monument.

War of Martian Independence[]

In 2158, a group of Martian separatists known as Free Mars took control of the Colonial Government. They soon declared themselves an independent state, a vision not shared by most citizens. The War for Martian Independence began with the Terran Federation taking New Venice and securing it. When the war ended eight months later, Cain Dawson, the leader of Free Mars was taken to the Alcatraz Stasis Prison where he was placed in stasis for one thousand years.

Red Friday[]

Following the Lirin War, the Colonial Government of Mars volunteered to house refugees from several alien worlds. This action was opposed by the Sons of Sol movement, who felt that the Sol system should be for Humans only. When the refugee ships landed, a group of Sons of Sol members attacked the refugees, killing eighteen and wounding over one hundred. The Colonial Government of Mars ordered the immediate arrest of all members of the Sons of Sol on Mars.

A few decades later, refugees from worlds destroyed by the Strekkelans were brought to Mars.
